Uniqlo Hawaii Grand Opening
Back in 2013 on a trip to San Francisco, we thought we struck gold when we stepped into the Uniqlo storefront on Powell Street; high quality clothes for ridiculously cheap! The Hawaii Trifecta of stores that Hawaii needs had to be updated — Trader Joe’s, In and Out Burger, and now Uniqlo. Fast forward a few years and while we could always order clothes online, nothing beats being able to feel the textures and finding the right fit that only a storefront can provide. We hopped on a plane to Japan back in May 2018 and wrecked shop in pretty much every Uniqlo Store we saw, it became habitual for the entire vacation. When we got back home, we found out there was a pop up store that opened up in Ala Moana Shopping Center. After a soft opening of their main store right before Black Friday, I was so stoked to have the opportunity to partner up with their team to highlight some of their new collections. After a few months of anctipation, the first floor, mezzanine and second floor were ready to go and I was invited to check it out before the public.
I thought the top floor had a lot of stuff but this new open space layout with a contemporary touch of modern has really taken this store over the top. We made it just in time for the welcoming ceremony where we were introduced to some of the high ups in the company. It led to introductions of the local artists who did a collaboration for the new collection (Matthew Tapia, Jasper Wong and Kevin Lyons) of items that are being promoted on the mezzanine level.
Wall display of tee’s with a scrolling marquee (<—who else learned that word from MySpace?!)
^i hope this carousel displays correctly, this is the first time I’m posting a full blog from my iPad
There was also a traditional Sake Barrel Cracking which was pretty dope and shots were handed out to celebrate the new store. Light pupu’s were served and off we went to checkout the new store and all the new items in stock. Lots of items exclusive to Hawaii, lots of basics/everyday wear (I say everyday because even they’re basics can used for business casual), and more accessories like bags/beanies/belts. Also had a chance to meet up with some of the other content creators who are also stoked to have this brand in Hawaii.
Uniqlo is more than a brand, its a life-style bringing the community of Hawaii together.
